Where is humanity? The human cost of detaining asylum seekers

‘Where is humanity?’ was the slogan that in early September this year, migrants and asylum seekers at Safi immigration-detention centre in Malta were desperately yelling to the world. The nexus inhumanity-immigration detention is not a new phenomenon.
This event will look at the ordeal of detained asylum-seekers in Britain. Why they are detained? What is it like to be detained? What are the long-term consequences for those detained? And to look at the alternatives to detention?
