In October, Agenzia DiRE in Rome hosted a collaboration between UAI and the Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies in Pisa. The event was entitled ‘Inhumanity in Tigray and Beyond: Context and Responsibilities. What Can be Done?

Antonio Donini, a founding member of UAI and a current member of its International Executive Committee, was one of the speakers

The presentations and the lively discussions that followed, highlighted not only the seriousness of the humanitarian situation but also how polarized opinions on the responsibilities for the crisis are. We are pleased to be able to bring you a couple of reports.

The first is a video extract (in English) from the conference and is a presentation made by Alex de Waal on the topic of the use of starvation in war. It was entitled ‘Starvation in Tigray: Causes and Culpabilities.’

Alex is the Executive Director of the World Peace Foundation at Tufts University and has many years experience of the region and the cycles of inhumanity that it has suffered.
