Stop the Inhumanity at Europe’s Borders!

What is it about?

This campaign aims to bring together specialized organisations in the fields of humanitarian response, asylum and migrant rights in order to pressure European governments and relevant European institutions to profoundly reform the current border regime and practices, and to stop the appalling inhumanities being experienced by people on the move.

Join us!

New signatories are welcome to join. Your civil society organisation can sign-up as a co-signatory to the Collective Demand by filling out this form.

We also welcome any contribution to relay the campaign to the authorities, the media and other concerned stakehdolders in your own area, as well as suggestions for events that you may be able to organize. Efforts to convince civil society members of your own network to sign up will be much appreciated.

Update: The Manifesto is ready!

After the official launch of the campaign on January 2024, the Collective Demand with an accompanying cover letter was sent to 36 Heads of European Governments. Since then, we’ve continued brainstorming, and as a result, the campaign’s Action Committee has produced a shared Manifesto—a foundational tool to call for meaningful political and moral change.

“Throughout Europe and its neighbouring regions, refugees, asylum seekers, and other migrants are subjected to many different forms of inhumanity, including detention, deportation, and the risk of death at sea or on land. Such abuses persist despite Europe’s stated values, its legal obligations, and its demographic needs.

This Manifesto calls for the humane treatment of people on the move — by providing safe routes to Europe and decent reception arrangements, by ending their containment in and expulsion to other places, and by ensuring access to justice and redress when their rights have been violated.”

How was it created?
With the support of researchers, migration specialists, and dozens of solidarity organizations, we’ve analyzed the challenges and mapped out concrete political solutions structured around five key areas of demands for a more humane border policy.

But this Manifesto only gains power when it’s carried forward by all of us—150+ signatories and supporters of the campaign—standing together to bring humanity back to the center of European policies. Now it’s your turn.

Can we count on you?

  • Share the attached Manifesto with your colleagues and networks.
  • Indicate any redline changes that you feel are essential before 15th August.
  • Propose ideas for dissemination, advocacy and joint action.
  • And feel free to simply let us know “you’re on board”

Thank you for standing united—it’s time to act.
